When it comes to pterosaurs, the Quetzalcoatlus is widely known for its impressive size. However, there is one pterosaur that is believed to have been even larger than the largest species of Quetzalcoatlus. That pterosaur is Hatzegopteryx.

Hatzegopteryx is a genus of pterosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 70 million years ago. It was discovered in the Hateg Basin in Romania and is known from several partial skull and jaw fragments. Based on comparisons with other pterosaurs, scientists estimated that the skull of Hatzegopteryx was approximately 3 meters (9.8 feet) in length. This is larger than the skulls of any known non-avian dinosaur or any other pterosaur.

To put this into perspective, the largest species of Quetzalcoatlus had a skull estimated to be around 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) in length. So, Hatzegopteryx had a skull that was larger than that of the largest Quetzalcoatlus species. This makes Hatzegopteryx one of the largest pterosaurs known to date.

It is truly fascinating to think about the sheer size of these ancient creatures. To imagine a pterosaur with a skull nearly 10 feet long is mind-boggling. Just picture the immense wingspan and the incredible power it must have possessed during flight.
