What does Lutheran Social Services do?

Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is a Christian nonprofit organization that provides social services and promotes human rights across the United States. LSS offers a wide range of programs and services, including: emergency assistance, housing and homeless services, mental health and addiction services, refugee resettlement, faith-based programs, and more. LSS also advocates for social justice issues, such as poverty alleviation, immigration reform, and human trafficking prevention.

LSS is a national organization with over 400 local affiliates in the United States, including over 160 agencies that are independently governed by their own boards of directors. Lutheran Social Services is one of approximately 20 Lutheran church bodies that participate in international relief and development efforts through Lutheran World Relief (LWR).

The services provided by Lutheran Social Services are also open to non-Christians. Services are provided without regard to race, religion, national origin, disability, age or gender.  Lutheran Social Services makes every effort to ensure services are accessible to those with limited English proficiency. Limited English proficient individuals may receive services through alternative methods such as sign language interpretation or printed materials in their preferred language.

Yes, Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is an affiliate of Lutheran Services in America (LSA), and a partner of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). LSS provides social services to people of all faiths, and is one of the largest providers of social services in the United States.

Hundreds of local Lutheran congregations partner with LSS to provide services locally, and contribute financially for the benefit of those whom we serve. In addition to our national affiliates, Lutheran Social Services works closely with other faith-based organizations.

Lutheran Social Services of Southern California (LSSSC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit social service agency. It was officially incorporated in 1946, and today it serves thousands of individuals and families throughout Southern California with over 70 diffrent programs/services at nearly 20 different locations.
