Humans, nevertheless, decided to sin and turn their backs on God. As a consequence, humans are conceived sinful and in need of God’s forgiveness and salvation. We obtain God’s grace and are forgiven through faith in Jesus Christ, who died for our sins whle yet alive and was raised from the dead. We are also given the privilege of everlasting life as a present.

Lutherans also teach that the Bible is the authoritative source of religious teachings. Christians should read and interpret it themselves, rather than relying on the interpretations of others. Scripture should be used to guide one’s life, but not to control it.
