I have to say, when it comes to the debate between Frozen and Tangled, I have a strong preference for Tangled. Don’t get me wrong, Frozen has its merits, but in terms of plot execution, Tangled just does it better.
First of all, Tangled has a clear and well-defined plot right from the beginning. We are introduced to Rapunzel, a young princess with magical hair, who has been locked away in a tower by the evil Mother Gothel. The goal is clear – Rapunzel wants to leave the tower and experience the outside world. The audience is immediately invested in her journey and wants to see her achieve her goal.
On the other hand, Frozen’s plot feels a bit disjointed at times. While it starts with the relationship between two sisters, Elsa and Anna, and Elsa’s struggle with her ice powers, it becomes a bit convoluted with the introduction of Hans as a potential love interest and the whole “eternal winter” plotline. It’s not that it’s bad, but it’s not as cohesive and focused as Tangled.
Another strength of Tangled is its clear and defined villain. Mother Gothel is a manipulative and deceitful character who will stop at nothing to keep Rapunzel locked away. Her motivations are clear, and she provides a direct antagonist for Rapunzel to overcome. In Frozen, the villain is less obvious, and the reveal of Hans as the true antagonist feels a bit forced and out of left field. It doesn’t have the same impact as Mother Gothel’s villainy.
Furthermore, Tangled’s ending is more satisfying and predictable in a good way. We know that Rapunzel will eventually escape the tower and reunite with her family, and we eagerly anticipate that moment. In Frozen, while the ending is still satisfying, the twist with Elsa’s powers being the key to saving the day feels a bit rushed and not as well-established throughout the film.
Tangled simply executes its plot better than Frozen. It has a clear and focused storyline, a well-defined villain, and a satisfying ending. While Frozen has its own strengths, Tangled just edges it out in terms of plot execution.
