Does peanut butter attract gophers?

Answered by Tom Adger

Peanut butter definitely attracts gophers. I learned this the hard way when I discovered my garden being ravaged by these little critters. They were munching on my potatoes, carrots, and all the roots of my plants. It was a frustrating sight to see all my hard work being destroyed by these pesky gophers.

In my quest to get rid of them, I did some research and stumbled upon the idea of using peanut butter as bait in gopher traps. Apparently, gophers are quite fond of peanut butter, just like us humans. The sweet and salty aroma of the peanut butter seems to entice them and lure them into the traps.

So, armed with this newfound knowledge, I decided to give it a try. I set up a couple of gopher traps near the areas where I had noticed their activity. I smeared a generous amount of peanut butter on the traps and eagerly waited to see if it would work.

To my surprise, within a day or two, I started catching gophers. It seemed like they couldn’t resist the temptation of the peanut butter. It was a simple yet effective method to trap and ultimately get rid of these destructive rodents.

However, I soon realized that using peanut butter as bait was not a foolproof solution. While it did attract and trap some gophers, there were a few that seemed to be immune to its charm. These clever creatures managed to avoid the traps and continued to wreak havoc in my garden.

I had to resort to other methods, such as using repellents and installing barriers, to further protect my plants from the gophers. But I can’t deny the initial success I had with peanut butter as bait. It definitely played a significant role in reducing the gopher population in my garden.

Yes, peanut butter does attract gophers. Its irresistible scent seems to be a powerful lure for these rodents. However, it’s important to remember that it may not be a foolproof solution and other methods might need to be employed to fully eradicate gophers from your garden.
