Does Ford still own Jaguar?

Answered by Tom Adger

Ford does not currently own Jaguar. In 1999, Ford purchased Jaguar from British Aerospace in a deal worth $2.5 billion. At the time, Ford was looking to expand its luxury brand portfolio and saw Jaguar as a valuable addition. However, the acquisition did not go as smoothly as Ford had hoped.

During Ford’s ownership, Jaguar faced numerous challenges, including financial difficulties and a decline in sales. Despite Ford’s efforts to revitalize the brand and invest in new models, Jaguar continued to struggle. In 2000, Ford also acquired Land Rover, adding another luxury brand to its portfolio.

However, as the global financial crisis hit in the late 2000s, Ford found itself in a difficult financial situation. The company was forced to reevaluate its priorities and focus on its core brands. As a result, Ford made the decision to sell both Jaguar and Land Rover.

In 2008, Tata Motors, an Indian automotive company, purchased Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford for approximately $2.3 billion. This marked a new chapter for both brands, as they became part of the Tata Motors family.

Tata Motors saw potential in Jaguar and Land Rover and made significant investments to rejuvenate the brands. Under Tata’s ownership, Jaguar and Land Rover have undergone a transformation, introducing new models and expanding their global reach.

Today, Jaguar and Land Rover are thriving under Tata Motors’ ownership. They have seen an increase in sales and have successfully positioned themselves as luxury brands in the global automotive market. Both brands continue to develop innovative vehicles and have a strong presence in key markets around the world.

Ford no longer owns Jaguar. The company purchased Jaguar in 1999 and Land Rover in 2000, but due to financial difficulties, Ford sold both brands to Tata Motors in 2008. Since then, Jaguar and Land Rover have flourished under Tata’s ownership, showcasing their luxury appeal and delivering exciting vehicles to customers worldwide.
