Why do deleted photos reappear on iPhone?

Answered by Tom Adger

Deleted photos reappearing on your iPhone can be frustrating and confusing. I know this firsthand because I have experienced this issue myself. In my case, the culprit was iCloud Photo Library, which automatically syncs your photos across all your devices.

When you delete a photo from your iPhone, it goes to the “Recently Deleted” folder, where it stays for 30 days before being permanently deleted. However, if iCloud Photo Library is enabled, the photo will still exist in your iCloud storage, and therefore, it can reappear on your iPhone.

To stop deleted photos from reappearing on your iPhone, you need to disable iCloud Photo Library. Here’s how you can do it:

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Tap on your Apple ID at the top of the screen.
3. Select “iCloud” from the list of options.
4. Scroll down and tap on “Photos.”
5. Toggle off the switch next to “iCloud Photo Library.”

By doing this, you are preventing your photos from syncing across your devices. However, keep in mind that disabling iCloud Photo Library will also remove all your photos from iCloud, so make sure you have them backed up elsewhere before proceeding.

To delete the photos that have already been synced to iCloud, follow these steps:

1. Open the Photos app on your iPhone.
2. Go to the “Albums” tab at the bottom of the screen.
3. Scroll down and select the “Recently Deleted” album.
4. Tap on “Select” in the top right corner.
5. Choose the photos you want to permanently delete.
6. Tap on “Delete” at the bottom right corner.
7. Confirm by tapping on “Delete [number] Photos.”

Once you have disabled iCloud Photo Library and deleted the photos from iCloud, they should no longer reappear on your iPhone. However, it’s essential to note that this solution only applies to photos synced through iCloud Photo Library. If you have other photo backup services or apps like Google Photos or Dropbox, you may need to disable or adjust their settings accordingly.

Deleted photos can reappear on your iPhone due to the automatic syncing of iCloud Photo Library. To prevent this, disable iCloud Photo Library and delete the photos from iCloud. By taking these steps, you can ensure that the deleted photos stay deleted and don’t reappear on your device.
