Keith Villa, the man behind Blue Moon beer, is a true expert in the brewing industry. With a Ph.D. in brewing from the University of Brussels, his knowledge and expertise are unparalleled. I had the pleasure of meeting him during a brewery tour, and his passion for beer and dedication to his craft were evident in every aspect of his work.
Before creating Blue Moon, Keith Villa served as the brewmaster of the Sandlot Brewery, located in the basement of Denver’s Coors Field. This unique setting allowed him to experiment and perfect his recipes, eventually leading to the creation of Blue Moon. The brewery’s proximity to the baseball stadium also provided Keith with the opportunity to introduce his beer to a wide range of beer enthusiasts, further establishing Blue Moon’s popularity.
Interestingly, Blue Moon was not its original name. When Keith first developed the recipe, he named the beer Bellyslide Wit. However, as the beer gained popularity and expanded to a larger market, the name was changed to Blue Moon. This rebranding decision proved to be a smart move, as the name Blue Moon conveys a sense of mystery and allure, perfectly capturing the essence of the beer.
Keith Villa’s dedication to brewing extends beyond just creating great beers. He is constantly pushing the boundaries of what beer can be, experimenting with different flavors and ingredients. This commitment to innovation has resulted in Blue Moon offering a wide variety of flavors, from the classic Belgian White to seasonal offerings like Mango Wheat and Cinnamon Horchata Ale.
One of the things that sets Keith Villa apart is his ability to connect with beer enthusiasts on a personal level. During my brewery tour, he took the time to explain the brewing process in detail and answer any questions we had. His genuine enthusiasm for beer was infectious, and it was evident that he wanted everyone to appreciate and enjoy the craft as much as he did.
Keith Villa is more than just the man behind Blue Moon beer. He is a true brewing expert, constantly pushing the boundaries of what beer can be. His dedication to his craft, innovative spirit, and ability to connect with beer enthusiasts make him a standout figure in the brewing industry.
