To begin streaming from the VLC media player app, follow these steps:
1. Launch the VLC media player on your computer. If you don’t have it installed, you can download it from the official VLC website and install it.
2. Once VLC is open, navigate to the top left corner and click on the “Media” tab. From the dropdown menu, select “Stream.” Alternatively, you can use the shortcut Ctrl + S to open the Stream settings directly.
3. The Stream Output window will appear. By default, the “File” tab should be selected. In this tab, click on the “Add” button to browse and select the media file you want to stream.
4. After selecting the desired media file, click on the “Stream” button at the bottom of the window.
5. The Stream Output window will now display the “Destination Setup” section. Here, you need to choose the streaming method you prefer. VLC offers various streaming options such as HTTP, RTP, RTSP, and more. Select the appropriate option based on your requirements.
6. Once you’ve selected the streaming method, click on the “Add” button in the “Destination Setup” section. This will add the streaming destination to the list.
7. Next, configure the streaming options based on your needs. You can specify the bitrate, encapsulation method, and other settings depending on the streaming method you’ve chosen.
8. After configuring the streaming options, click on the “Next” button.
9. In the “Option Setup” section, you can add any additional VLC command-line options if required. However, for basic streaming, you can skip this step and click on the “Next” button.
10. The next window allows you to specify a name for your media stream. You can enter a custom name or leave it as the default. Click on the “Stream” button to begin the streaming process.
11. VLC will now start streaming the selected media file to the specified destination. The progress can be monitored in the main VLC window.
It’s worth noting that if you’re streaming to another device on your network, such as a smart TV or another computer, you will need to set up the appropriate streaming protocol and ensure the receiving device is capable of receiving the stream.
Streaming media using VLC can be a versatile solution for sharing and accessing content across different devices. Whether you’re streaming videos, music, or other media files, VLC provides a flexible and user-friendly platform.
