How do I get a chocobo companion?

Answered by Jeremy Urbaniak

To get a chocobo companion in Final Fantasy XIV, you’ll need to go through a couple of quests. The first quest is called “My Little Chocobo” and becomes available once you reach level 20. You’ll need to be a member of a Grand Company to begin this quest.

First, make your way to your Grand Company headquarters. This will be either the Maelstrom in Limsa Lominsa, the Immortal Flames in Ul’dah, or the Twin Adders in Gridania. Once you’re there, look for the NPC who gives out the chocobo-related quests. In the Maelstrom, it’s R’ashaht Rhiki, in the Immortal Flames it’s Swift, and in the Twin Adders it’s Vorsaile Heuloix.

Speak to the appropriate NPC and select the “My Little Chocobo” quest. They’ll give you a chocobo whistle and instruct you to speak with the Chocobokeep in your Grand Company’s stables. Head to the stables, which are usually located near the Chocobokeep in your Grand Company headquarters.

Speak to the Chocobokeep and select the option to summon your chocobo. A cutscene will play, and you’ll be able to name your chocobo. Choose a name and confirm it, and your chocobo will be summoned. Congratulations, you now have a chocobo companion!

Once you reach level 30, you can complete the “My Little Feisty Chocobo” quest to unlock additional features for your chocobo. This quest will allow you to customize your chocobo’s appearance and give it a role in battle.

To start the “My Little Feisty Chocobo” quest, return to the Chocobokeep in your Grand Company’s stables. They’ll explain that your chocobo has reached a certain level of maturity and can now be trained for combat. They’ll ask you to bring them a certain item, which varies depending on your starting city-state.

For Limsa Lominsa, you’ll need to bring a “Krakka Root” to the Chocobokeep. This can be purchased from vendors in Limsa Lominsa or obtained through gardening.

For Ul’dah, you’ll need to bring a “Mimett Gourd” to the Chocobokeep. This can be purchased from vendors in Ul’dah or obtained through gardening.

For Gridania, you’ll need to bring a “Curiel Root” to the Chocobokeep. This can be purchased from vendors in Gridania or obtained through gardening.

Once you have the required item, speak to the Chocobokeep and hand it over. They’ll then guide you through the process of customizing your chocobo’s appearance and choosing its role in battle. You can change these options at any time by speaking to the Chocobokeep again.

And that’s it! You’ve completed the “My Little Feisty Chocobo” quest and unlocked more features for your chocobo companion. Now you can ride into battle with your trusty feathered friend by your side. Good luck and have fun!
