Does Roomba get caught on rug fringe?

Answered by John Hunt

The Roomba 960 does have a tendency to get caught on rug fringes. I learned this the hard way during its first run in my home. The fringes on my rugs seemed to be a challenge that the Roomba was simply not designed to handle.

When the Roomba encountered the rug fringe, it would often get tangled up in it, causing the machine to stop and struggle to break free. This resulted in a frustrating situation where the Roomba would essentially wrestle with the fringes, unable to move forward or clean effectively.

It became clear to me that the Roomba’s design did not take into account the presence of rug fringes. While it did a great job navigating around furniture and other obstacles, the fringes seemed to throw it off balance. The Roomba’s brushes would get entangled in the fringes, leading to a lot of frustration and manual intervention to free the machine.

In an attempt to mitigate this issue, I tried tucking the fringes under the rug to keep them out of the Roomba’s way. However, this was not a foolproof solution. Sometimes the fringes would come loose and get caught again, resulting in the same struggle as before.

I also experimented with placing boundary markers around the rugs to prevent the Roomba from venturing onto them. While this did keep the Roomba away from the fringes, it also limited its ability to clean the entire area effectively.

Ultimately, I had to accept that the Roomba 960 was not the best choice for my home with its rug fringes. It seemed to be more suited for homes with smooth flooring or rugs without fringes.

The Roomba 960 is not well-equipped to handle rug fringes. It tends to get caught and struggle with them, making it a less effective cleaning solution for homes with this type of flooring.
