Can you delete or Unsend messages on iMessage?

Answered by Cody Janus

Finally! I’m so excited to share that with the next iPhone update, iOS 16, you’ll be able to edit or delete iMessages that you’ve sent. This is a feature that many of us have been waiting for, as we’ve all had those moments where we’ve sent a message and immediately regretted it.

I remember one time when I was in a group chat with some friends and I accidentally sent a message that was meant for someone else. It was so embarrassing, and I desperately wished I could take it back. But unfortunately, at that time, there was no option to delete or unsend messages on iMessage.

But now, with iOS 16, that won’t be a problem anymore. If you’ve sent a message and realized you made a mistake, you can simply go back into the conversation, tap on the message, and choose the option to edit or delete it. It’s as simple as that!

This new feature will be a game-changer for many of us. No more panicking after sending a message and desperately hoping that the recipient didn’t see it. Now, we have the power to correct our mistakes and prevent any unnecessary embarrassment.

I can think of so many situations where this feature would have come in handy. For example, imagine sending a text to your boss and realizing that you made a typo in an important email address. Instead of having to send a follow-up message explaining the mistake, you can simply edit the original message and fix the error. It saves time, avoids confusion, and prevents any potential misunderstandings.

Additionally, this feature will also be beneficial in situations where emotions may run high. We’ve all been in arguments or disagreements where we’ve said things in the heat of the moment that we later regret. With the ability to edit or delete messages, we can take a step back, reconsider our words, and make sure we’re conveying our thoughts in a more constructive and respectful manner.

Of course, it’s important to note that this feature will only work if the recipient hasn’t seen the message yet. Once a message has been read, you won’t be able to edit or delete it anymore. So, it’s essential to act quickly if you realize you’ve made a mistake.

The upcoming iOS 16 update will bring a much-awaited feature to iMessage – the ability to edit or delete sent messages. This will undoubtedly be a game-changer, allowing us to correct mistakes, avoid embarrassment, and improve communication overall. I, for one, am eagerly looking forward to this update and the peace of mind it will bring.
