To override the administrator name and password on a Mac, you can follow these steps:
1. Restart your Mac: The first step is to restart your Mac. You can do this by clicking on the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen and selecting “Restart.”
2. Enter Recovery Mode: While your Mac is restarting, you need to enter Recovery Mode. To do this, press and hold the Command (⌘) + R keys on your keyboard until you see the Apple logo or a spinning globe.
3. Access Utilities: Once you are in Recovery Mode, the next step is to access the Utilities menu. To do this, go to the top menu bar and click on “Utilities.”
4. Open Terminal: From the Utilities menu, select “Terminal.” This will open a Terminal window.
5. Enter the command: In the Terminal window, type “resetpassword” (without quotes) and then press Enter. This command will open the Reset Password utility.
6. Choose the boot drive: In the Reset Password utility, select your boot drive from the list of available drives. Usually, this is the main hard drive of your Mac.
7. Select the user account: After selecting the boot drive, the Reset Password utility will display a list of user accounts on your Mac. Choose the administrator account for which you want to override the password.
8. Reset the password: Once you have selected the user account, you can now reset the password. Enter a new password for the account and provide a password hint if desired. Make sure to choose a strong password to ensure the security of your Mac.
9. Restart your Mac: After resetting the password, click on the “Save” button to finalize the changes. You will then be prompted to restart your Mac. Click on the “Restart” button to reboot your Mac.
Upon restarting, you can log in to your Mac using the new password you just set. Keep in mind that overriding the administrator name and password requires you to have physical access to the Mac and the necessary permissions. It’s important to use this method responsibly and only on your own computer or with proper authorization.
Note: Resetting the administrator password will not affect any data on your Mac. However, it’s always a good idea to have a backup of your important files before making any changes to your system.
