The owners were instructed to give attention to each object in turn, while ignoring the dog. The researchers observed the dogs’ behavior during these interactions.

When the owners showed affection towards the stuffed dog, the dogs displayed significantly more jealous behaviors compared to when the attention was given to the other objects. These behaviors included pushing or touching the owner, trying to get between the owner and the stuffed dog, and vocalizing in a distressed manner.
