Why does PI tame Richard Parker?

Answered by James Kissner

Taming Richard Parker was not an easy task for me. After being stranded at sea on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger, I quickly realized that in order to survive, I needed to establish some sort of companionship with this fearsome creature. It was a matter of life and death.

One of the methods I used to tame Richard Parker was through food. I caught fish from the ocean and fed them to him. I made sure to provide him with enough sustenance to keep him satisfied and prevent him from seeing me as a threat or potential prey. By consistently providing him with food, I gained his trust and slowly began to establish a bond with him.

In addition to food, I also utilized a whistle to communicate with Richard Parker. I discovered that tigers have a keen sense of hearing, and by using the whistle, I was able to grab his attention and get him to listen to my commands. I trained him to respond to certain whistle patterns, signaling him to come closer or move away. This allowed me to establish a sense of control over his movements and behavior.

However, it wasn’t just about using food and a whistle to tame Richard Parker. I also took advantage of his vulnerability. Like humans, tigers can experience seasickness, and the constant rocking of the boat made him feel uneasy. I observed that the seasickness seemed to torment him, affecting his appetite and overall demeanor. I used this to my advantage by showing him that I was not a threat, but rather someone who could offer him comfort and stability in this unpredictable environment.

Through these methods, I slowly but surely gained Richard Parker’s trust and respect. It was a gradual process, filled with moments of fear and uncertainty, but I knew that taming him was essential for our survival. The companionship we developed allowed us to work together, sharing the limited resources we had and facing the challenges of the open sea as a team.

I tamed Richard Parker out of necessity. I needed his companionship to survive. Through the use of food, a whistle, and exploiting his vulnerability to seasickness, I was able to establish a bond with him. It was a challenging and risky endeavor, but ultimately, it paid off as we navigated the harsh realities of life at sea together.
