Why Daniel Gillies Leave Saving Hope?

Answered by Phillip Nicastro

It was a decision that was very difficult to make. I spoke to my representation and I said, ‘Look. I think we should have this discussion because I have a wife that’s American and I have a daughter that’s an American. Soon I’m going to have another son, he’s going to be an American boy.

Leaving Saving Hope was not an easy choice for me. I had been a part of the show for several seasons and had developed a strong bond with the cast and crew. However, when the opportunity arose for me to move to the United States and be closer to my family, I knew I had to seriously consider it.

Having a wife and children who are American citizens played a significant role in my decision. My wife and I felt that it was important for our children to grow up in the United States, surrounded by their extended family and the culture they would be a part of. We wanted to provide them with the opportunities and experiences that come with living in their home country.

The prospect of welcoming a new son into our family also weighed heavily on my mind. The thought of him being born in Canada and potentially facing challenges related to citizenship or immigration down the line was something we wanted to avoid. We wanted him to have the same rights and privileges as his siblings, and that meant being born in the United States.

I discussed my concerns with my representation and we decided to have a serious discussion about my future on the show. We weighed the pros and cons, considering the impact it would have on my career and the relationships I had formed on set. Ultimately, though, the well-being and happiness of my family took precedence.

Leaving Saving Hope was a bittersweet moment for me. I had grown attached to the character I portrayed and the stories we told on the show. It was a difficult goodbye, but I knew it was the right decision for my family.

Now, as I reflect on my decision, I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way since leaving the show. I have been able to pursue other projects in the United States and spend valuable time with my loved ones. While it was a tough choice to make, I believe it was the best one for my family’s future.

My decision to leave Saving Hope was primarily driven by my desire to be closer to my American family and provide a better future for my children. It was not an easy choice to make, but I am confident that it was the right one. I am grateful for the experiences I had on the show and excited for what the future holds.
