Who are the Sarranids based on?

The Sarranids, oh what an interesting faction they are! When I first encountered them in Mount&Blade Warband, I couldn’t help but be fascinated by their unique culture and appearance. It was clear to me from the start that they were heavily influenced by Medieval Middle-Eastern civilization and the early Ottoman Arab-Turkish Empire.

The Sarranids are a newcomer nation in Calradia, the fictional land in which the game is set. They occupy the vast desert region in the south-eastern part of the map, and their lands are characterized by their arid and harsh environment. This immediately reminded me of the Arabian deserts, with their vast stretches of sand and scorching heat.

One of the most striking aspects of the Sarranids is their clothing and armor. They wear flowing robes and turbans, which are not only practical for the desert climate but also reflect the traditional attire of Middle-Eastern cultures. The colors of their garments, such as rich shades of red, blue, and gold, are vibrant and eye-catching.

When it comes to their military, the Sarranids excel at cavalry warfare. They have skilled horsemen who are proficient with both bows and swords, making them formidable opponents on the battlefield. This emphasis on cavalry tactics is reminiscent of the Arab armies of the Middle Ages, who were known for their skilled horsemanship and swift maneuvers.

In addition to their military prowess, the Sarranids also have a strong trading culture. Their lands are strategically located between the eastern and western parts of Calradia, making them a hub for trade caravans. This echoes the historical importance of the Middle East as a crossroads for trade between Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Another aspect of the Sarranids that reflects their Middle-Eastern influence is their architecture. Their cities and castles are adorned with intricate designs, arches, and domes, showcasing the beauty and sophistication of Islamic architecture. Walking through their cities, I couldn’t help but feel transported to a different time and place, surrounded by the sights and sounds of a bustling Middle-Eastern marketplace.

The Sarranids in Mount&Blade Warband are based heavily on Medieval Middle-Eastern civilization and the early Ottoman Arab-Turkish Empire. From their clothing and armor to their military tactics and architecture, every aspect of their culture reflects this influence. Playing as the Sarranids or interacting with them in the game is a fascinating experience that offers a glimpse into a rich and vibrant historical period.
