What were Moses last words?

Answered by Cody Janus

Moses’s last words were a blessing to the people of Israel. In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses is nearing the end of his life and he gathers the Israelites together to give them his final instructions and blessings before they enter the Promised Land.

Instead of cursing the people, as some may have expected after the numerous challenges and rebellions they had faced throughout their journey, Moses chose to bless them. This act of blessing is a testament to Moses’s love for the people and his faith in God’s plan for them.

Moses begins his blessing by reminding the Israelites of their salvation by the Lord. He says, “The Lord came from Sinai and dawned over them from Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran. He came with myriads of holy ones from the south, from his mountain slopes” (Deuteronomy 33:2). This reminder of their divine rescue from Egypt serves to strengthen their faith in God’s continued protection and provision.

Moving forward, Moses blesses each of the tribes of Israel individually, highlighting their unique qualities and the blessings they will receive. For example, he blesses Judah, saying, “Hear, Lord, the cry of Judah; bring him to his people. With his own hands, he defends his cause. Oh, be his help against his foes!” (Deuteronomy 33:7). Moses’s blessings for each tribe are a recognition of their distinct roles and contributions within the community.

In these blessings, Moses also speaks of the future of Israel. He assures the people that God will be with them as they face challenges and enemies, saying, “There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:26-27). Moses’s words provide comfort and encouragement, assuring the Israelites that their future is bright and secure in God’s hands.

Moses’s last words were words of blessing and assurance. He chose to lift up the people of Israel, reminding them of their salvation and promising them a hopeful future. This act of blessing reflects Moses’s deep love for the people and his unwavering faith in God’s faithfulness. His final words serve as a powerful reminder for us today that even in the face of challenges, blessings and hope can prevail.
