Yesterday morning, the ROBLOX community received the devastating news of the passing of Erik Cassel, my co-founder at ROBLOX. It is with a heavy heart that I share this news with you all. Erik had been fighting cancer for the past three years, and despite his incredible strength and determination, he ultimately succumbed to this terrible disease.
I had the privilege of working alongside Erik for over two decades, both at a company called Knowledge Revolution and since the very beginning of ROBLOX. We shared a vision for creating a platform where people could come together, express their creativity, and have fun. Erik was instrumental in bringing that vision to life, and his contributions to ROBLOX cannot be overstated.
Erik was not just a co-founder and colleague to me, but also a dear friend. We went through countless ups and downs together, weathering the storms that come with building and growing a company. Erik’s passion and dedication were unparalleled, and his positive energy and unwavering belief in the potential of ROBLOX were truly inspiring.
I will always remember Erik as a brilliant mind, a talented engineer, and a visionary leader. But more than that, I will remember him as a kind-hearted and compassionate person. Erik had a genuine interest in people and their stories, and he always made time to listen and connect with others. He had a way of making you feel valued and heard, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Throughout his battle with cancer, Erik remained incredibly brave and resilient. He never let his illness define him, and he continued to contribute to ROBLOX whenever he could. His determination and strength in the face of adversity serve as a reminder to us all to never give up and to live each day to the fullest.
The loss of Erik is immeasurable, and our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We will be forever grateful for the impact Erik had on our lives and on the ROBLOX community. His legacy will continue to live on through the platform he helped create and the millions of people who have found joy and friendship on ROBLOX.
In honor of Erik’s memory, I encourage all of us to come together as a community and support one another. Let us celebrate his life and the incredible contributions he made to ROBLOX. Erik’s spirit will forever be a part of this platform, and his legacy will continue to inspire us to create, connect, and make a difference.
