I had the opportunity to visit Kiawah Island Golf Resort a few years ago, and I must say, it was a remarkable experience. The resort is home to a total of 90 holes, making it a haven for golf enthusiasts. One of the most prestigious tournaments held at Kiawah Island is the PGA Championship. This major championship has been hosted at the resort twice, in 2012 and it is set to return in 2021.
The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island is the crown jewel of the resort, and it has gained international recognition for its challenging layout and stunning coastal views. This course has seen some of the biggest names in golf compete for the coveted Wanamaker Trophy. It was the stage for the 1991 Ryder Cup, where the United States team emerged victorious.
In addition to the PGA Championship, Kiawah Island has also hosted other notable events. The World Cup of Golf took place at the resort in both 1997 and 2003, attracting top players from around the globe. The PGA Professional Championship, a tournament for club professionals, was held at Kiawah Island in 2005. And in 2007, the Senior PGA Championship graced the fairways of the resort.
What makes Kiawah Island Golf Resort even more special is its breathtaking natural surroundings. The barrier island location offers stunning ocean views, marshland vistas, and abundant wildlife. It truly is a golfer’s paradise.
When I visited Kiawah Island, I was in awe of the Ocean Course’s beauty and the challenging nature of the layout. The undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and the ever-present coastal winds made for a thrilling round of golf. Walking in the footsteps of golf legends who have competed at Kiawah Island added an extra layer of excitement to the experience.
Kiawah Island Golf Resort is renowned for hosting top-notch golf tournaments, with the PGA Championship being the highlight event. The Ocean Course’s challenging layout and stunning scenery make it a must-visit destination for any golf enthusiast.
