What files can Samsung TV play?

Answered by Ricardo McCardle

Based on my personal experience and knowledge, Samsung TVs have different capabilities when it comes to playing various file formats. The type of TV you have will determine the file systems and formats it supports.

QLED and SUHD TVs are the more advanced models, and they have broader file compatibility. These TVs support FAT, exFAT, and NTFS file systems. This means that you can connect a USB drive or an external hard drive formatted in any of these file systems, and the TV will be able to read and play the files stored on them.

When it comes to video file formats, QLED and SUHD TVs can handle a wide range of formats including MKV, MP4, AVI, MOV, and many others. These TVs also support various audio formats such as MP3, AAC, FLAC, and WAV, allowing you to enjoy your favorite music files.

In terms of picture files, QLED and SUHD TVs can display popular formats like JPEG, PNG, and BMP, allowing you to view your photos on the big screen. Additionally, these TVs also support subtitles in SRT, SUB, and SMI formats, enabling you to watch movies or TV shows with subtitles if available.

It’s worth noting that QLED and SUHD TVs offer a Folder view mode, which allows you to navigate through your files and folders in a more organized manner. In this mode, you can sort your files by name, date, or type, making it easier to find and access your desired content. It’s important to mention that QLED and SUHD TVs have a limitation of displaying up to 1,000 files per folder when sorted.

On the other hand, Full HD TVs have slightly more limited capabilities compared to QLED and SUHD models. These TVs support the NTFS file system in a read-only mode, meaning you can only view the files stored on an NTFS-formatted drive but cannot modify or delete them directly from the TV. Additionally, Full HD TVs also support the older FAT16 and FAT32 file systems, commonly used on USB drives.

In terms of file formats, Full HD TVs can play video files in formats such as AVI, MKV, and MP4, among others. However, the supported audio and picture formats remain the same as QLED and SUHD TVs, including formats like MP3, AAC, JPEG, and PNG.

To summarize, QLED and SUHD TVs offer more extensive file compatibility, supporting FAT, exFAT, and NTFS file systems, and a wider range of video, audio, and picture formats. Full HD TVs, on the other hand, support NTFS (Read Only), FAT16, and FAT32 file systems, and have slightly more limited format support. It’s always a good idea to check the user manual or specifications of your specific Samsung TV model to ensure compatibility with the file system and formats you intend to use.
