Flickr is no longer owned by Yahoo. On June 13, 2017, Verizon Communications acquired Yahoo, which included Flickr, as part of its overall acquisition of Yahoo’s internet properties. Verizon then organized Yahoo, along with AOL, into a new umbrella company called Oath. However, Oath was later renamed Verizon Media on January 8, 2019.
Under Verizon Media, Flickr continued to operate as a separate entity, but it was no longer directly owned by Yahoo. Verizon Media has its own portfolio of digital media brands and services, with Flickr being one of them.
It’s worth noting that the ownership of Flickr has changed hands a few times over the years. Yahoo initially acquired Flickr in 2005, and it remained under Yahoo’s ownership until the Verizon acquisition in 2017. Before Yahoo, Flickr was an independent startup founded by Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake in 2004.
As of now, Verizon Media still owns and operates Flickr, but it is no longer associated with Yahoo as a separate entity.
