Is Discord ID the same as username?

Answered by John Hunt

A Discord ID is not the same as a username. The Discord ID is a unique identifier assigned to each user on the platform, while the username is the name that is displayed to other users.

To find your Discord ID, you need to follow these steps:

1. Open Discord and click on the gear icon in the bottom left corner of the screen to access your user settings.
2. In the user settings menu, scroll down to the “App Settings” section and click on the “Advanced” tab.
3. In the advanced settings, scroll down until you see the “Developer Mode” option.
4. Toggle the switch next to “Developer Mode” to turn it on.

Once you have enabled Developer Mode, you can find your Discord ID by right-clicking on your username or profile picture anywhere on Discord and selecting the “Copy ID” option. This will copy your unique Discord ID to your clipboard.

It’s important to note that the Discord ID is an eighteen-digit number and may look something like this: 123456789012345678.

On the other hand, the username is the name that you choose for yourself on Discord. It can be customized and changed to your liking, as long as the chosen name is not already taken by another user. The username is what will be displayed to other users in servers, channels, and direct messages.

Having a unique Discord ID separate from the username helps ensure user privacy and allows for more accurate identification of individual users on the platform. This is particularly useful in larger communities where multiple users may have similar or identical usernames.

While the Discord ID is a unique identifier assigned to each user, the username is the name chosen by the user and is what is displayed to others. It’s important to distinguish between the two as they serve different purposes within the Discord platform.
