How much is hiking at the Botanical Gardens?

Answered by Randy McIntyre

I recently became a member of the Botanical Society of South Africa (BotSoc), and it has been such a great decision. As a member, I now have free access to all the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) national botanical gardens, including their hiking trails. It’s an incredible opportunity to explore the beauty of nature and enjoy some outdoor activities.

One of the things I love about hiking at the botanical gardens is the variety of trails available. Each garden has its own unique selection of trails, catering to different fitness levels and preferences. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike, there’s something for everyone.

The gardens themselves are absolutely stunning, with a wide range of plant species from all over South Africa. It’s such a pleasure to walk through the gardens, surrounded by lush greenery and beautiful flowers. The shady spots provide a welcome respite from the summer heat, making it a perfect place to relax and unwind.

What’s even better is that the hiking trails are well-maintained and clearly marked, making it easy to navigate through the gardens. I’ve never had any trouble finding my way or getting lost. The staff and volunteers at the gardens are also very helpful and friendly, always ready to provide information and assistance.

As a BotSoc member, I also receive regular updates and newsletters about upcoming events and activities at the botanical gardens. It’s a great way to stay connected and make the most of my membership. There are often guided hikes and educational programs available, which further enhance the hiking experience.

In terms of cost, becoming a BotSoc member is definitely worth it if you enjoy hiking at the botanical gardens. The annual membership fee is quite reasonable, especially considering the free access to all the gardens and their hiking trails. It’s a great investment for nature enthusiasts and those who appreciate the beauty of South Africa’s biodiversity.

Hiking at the botanical gardens as a BotSoc member is a fantastic experience. The gardens offer a peaceful and serene environment to connect with nature, and the hiking trails provide a wonderful opportunity to explore and stay active. I highly recommend becoming a member and taking advantage of this amazing privilege.
