How does Tyranitar evolve?

Answered by Edward Huber

Tyranitar is a powerful and formidable Pokémon that evolves from Pupitar. The process of Tyranitar’s evolution is quite interesting and involves a gradual transformation from its earlier forms.

1. Larvitar: The evolutionary journey of Tyranitar begins with its pre-evolved form, Larvitar. Larvitar is a small, green Pokémon with a rocky appearance. It hatches from an egg and starts its life in the Pokémon world as a Ground/Rock type. Larvitar is known to be quite tenacious and resilient, as it spends most of its time hiding and living in mountains and caves.

2. Pupitar: As Larvitar gains experience in battles and grows stronger, it eventually reaches level 30 and evolves into Pupitar. Pupitar is an intermediate stage in Tyranitar’s evolutionary line and is characterized by its cocoon-like appearance. Pupitar is unique as it spends most of its time immobile, encased in a hard shell made of rock. This shell serves as protection while it undergoes a transformation from a Ground/Rock type into a Rock/Dark type.

3. Tyranitar: After going through a period of growth and development inside its rocky cocoon, Pupitar finally emerges as the mighty Tyranitar at level 55. Tyranitar is an exceptionally powerful Pokémon, known for its immense strength, intimidating presence, and destructive capabilities. It stands tall on two legs and has a dark green, heavily armored body with red eyes. Tyranitar’s Rock/Dark typing gives it a range of resistances and weaknesses, making it a versatile and formidable opponent in battles.

Mega Evolution:
In addition to its regular evolution, Tyranitar has the ability to Mega Evolve into Mega Tyranitar. Mega Evolution is a temporary form change that enhances a Pokémon’s stats and abilities during battles. To Mega Evolve Tyranitar, it requires the use of a special item called the Tyranitarite. Once Tyranitar holds this item and a Mega Evolution is triggered in battle, it undergoes a further transformation into Mega Tyranitar.

Mega Tyranitar retains its Rock/Dark typing but gains a more imposing appearance. Its body becomes even larger and more heavily armored, and two additional spikes protrude from its back. Mega Tyranitar’s overall power and defenses are significantly increased, making it a force to be reckoned with in battles.

Tyranitar evolves from Larvitar to Pupitar at level 30, and finally into Tyranitar at level 55. Additionally, it has the ability to Mega Evolve into Mega Tyranitar using the Tyranitarite. This evolutionary journey showcases the growth and development of a Pokémon, culminating in the emergence of a powerful and fearsome creature.
