How do you reset your computer to factory?

Answered by Edward Huber

To reset your computer to factory settings, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Settings menu: Click on the Start button and select the Settings gear icon. Alternatively, you can press the Windows key + I on your keyboard to open the Settings directly.

2. Access the Update & Security section: In the Settings menu, look for the Update & Security option and click on it.

3. Navigate to the Recovery section: Once you are in the Update & Security menu, you will find a sidebar on the left. Click on the Recovery option in the sidebar.

4. Choose the reset option: In the Recovery section, you will see a title that says “Reset this PC.” Click on the Get Started button below it.

5. Select between keeping files or removing everything: You will be presented with two options: “Keep my files” or “Remove everything.” Choose the option that suits your needs.

– Keep my files: This option will remove installed apps and settings, but it will keep your personal files such as documents, pictures, and videos intact.
– Remove everything: This option will remove everything from your computer, including personal files, apps, and settings. It will essentially bring your computer back to its original factory state.

6. Choose a reset method: After selecting the desired option, you may be asked to choose a reset method. There are two common options:

– Just remove my files: This method will quickly reset your computer by removing your files. It is a faster option but may leave some data recoverable.
– Fully clean the drive: This method takes longer as it securely erases all data from the drive, making it more difficult to recover any previously stored files. Use this option if you plan to sell or give away your computer.

7. Start the reset process: Once you have made your selections, click on the Reset button to begin the reset process. Your computer will restart and the reset procedure will commence. Follow any on-screen prompts that may appear.

8. Set up your computer: After the reset is complete, your computer will start up as if it were brand new. You will need to go through the initial setup process, such as choosing your region, language, and signing in with a Microsoft account if required.

It’s important to note that resetting your computer to factory settings will remove all installed programs and settings, so make sure to back up any important files or data before proceeding.
