The name Oglebay is pronounced OH-gul-BEE. I know this because I recently had the opportunity to visit Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, WV, and had to learn the correct pronunciation myself.
When I first saw the name “Oglebay,” I wasn’t quite sure how to pronounce it. I thought maybe it was “OGLE-bay” or “OGL-ee-bay.” But after doing some research and asking the locals, I discovered that it is actually pronounced “OH-gul-BEE.” It’s a bit unique, but once you hear it a few times, it starts to roll off the tongue.
I have to admit, I had never heard of Oglebay Resort before planning my buddy golf trip. But I’m so glad we stumbled upon it. Oglebay Resort is located in Wheeling, WV, which is within a six-hour radius of where I live. So it was a convenient choice for us.
Now, I must say that Oglebay Resort is not your typical golf destination. It’s not surrounded by palm trees or located on a pristine coastline. Instead, it’s nestled in the rolling hills of West Virginia, surrounded by beautiful forests and nature. But don’t let that deter you. Oglebay Resort offers a unique and charming golf experience that you won’t find anywhere else.
The resort features two championship golf courses – the Speidel Golf Club and the Crispin Course. Both courses offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside and provide a challenging yet enjoyable golfing experience. The Speidel Golf Club is particularly renowned for its well-maintained fairways and greens.
Aside from golf, Oglebay Resort also offers a range of other activities and amenities. There are hiking and biking trails, a spa and fitness center, tennis courts, and even a zoo. you read that right. Oglebay Resort has its own zoo, which is a great option for non-golfers or for some post-golf relaxation.
As for accommodations, Oglebay Resort has a variety of options to suit every budget and preference. From cozy cabins and cottages to spacious lodge rooms, there is something for everyone. We opted for a lodge room, which was comfortable and conveniently located near the golf courses.
One of the things I loved most about Oglebay Resort was the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable, and the other guests we encountered were all friendly and sociable. It truly felt like a home away from home.
Now, I have to admit that Oglebay Resort may not be the most luxurious or glamorous golf destination out there. But what it lacks in glitz and glamour, it more than makes up for in charm and character. The stunning natural surroundings, the challenging golf courses, and the warm hospitality all combine to create a truly memorable golf trip experience.
So, if you’re looking for a unique and off-the-beaten-path golf destination within a six-hour radius of Wheeling, WV, I highly recommend considering Oglebay Resort.
