I recently had the opportunity to reprogram my Bixby button on my Samsung Galaxy S10, and let me tell you, it was a game-changer! If you’re like me and find Bixby to be more of a nuisance than a helpful assistant, then you’ll be glad to know that you can remap the Bixby button to perform a different action.
First things first, make sure you have a compatible phone with Android 9.0 (or later) and One UI. Once you’ve confirmed that, follow these steps:
1. Tap the Bixby button on the side of your phone. This will bring up the Bixby Home screen.
2. In the top right corner of the screen, tap the three vertical dots to open the menu.
3. From the menu, select “Settings.”
4. Scroll down and tap on “Bixby key.”
5. Here, you’ll see two options: “Single press to open Bixby” and “Double press to open Bixby.” Choose the option that suits your preference.
6. Once you’ve selected an option, flip the toggle switch to turn it on.
7. Now, you can choose what action you want the Bixby button to perform. You have two choices: “Run quick command” or “Open app.”
8. If you choose “Run quick command,” you can select from a list of pre-set commands or create your own custom command. This can be handy if you frequently use certain features or apps on your phone.
9. If you choose “Open app,” you can select any app installed on your phone. This is great if there’s a specific app you want to quickly access with the Bixby button.
10. Once you’ve made your selection, you’re all set! The next time you press the Bixby button, it will perform the action you specified.
I personally opted to remap my Bixby button to open the camera app with a double press. It’s so much more convenient than having to navigate through menus or find the camera icon on my home screen. Plus, it saves me precious seconds when I need to capture a quick moment.
So, if you’re tired of accidentally triggering Bixby or simply want to make better use of the Bixby button, give remapping a try. It’s a simple process that can greatly enhance your smartphone experience.
