How do I delete Music files from my Mac?

Answered by Jeremy Urbaniak

To delete Music files from your Mac, you can follow these steps:

1. Open the Music app on your Mac. You can find it in your Applications folder or by using Spotlight search.

2. Once the Music app is open, you will see a sidebar on the left side of the window. Click on the “Songs” option in the sidebar. This will display all of your songs in a list view.

3. Scroll through the list of songs and find the item you want to delete. You can use the search bar at the top of the window to quickly find a specific song if you have a large music library.

4. Once you have located the song you want to delete, select it by clicking on it. You can select multiple songs by holding down the Command key on your keyboard and clicking on each song.

5. With the song(s) selected, press the Delete key on your keyboard. You can also right-click on the selected song(s) and choose the “Delete” option from the context menu.

6. A confirmation dialog box will appear, asking if you want to delete the selected song(s). Click on the “Delete Song” button to proceed with the deletion.

7. The selected song(s) will now be moved to the “Recently Deleted” section in the sidebar. This acts as a temporary storage area in case you change your mind and want to restore the deleted songs.

8. If you are sure you want to permanently delete the song(s), you can go to the “Recently Deleted” section in the sidebar and select the song(s) you want to remove permanently.

9. Once again, press the Delete key on your keyboard or right-click on the selected song(s) and choose the “Delete” option from the context menu.

10. Another confirmation dialog box will appear, asking if you want to permanently delete the selected song(s). Click on the “Delete Song” button to confirm the deletion.

11. The selected song(s) will now be permanently removed from your Music library and cannot be restored.

It’s important to note that deleting a song from your Mac’s Music app will only remove it from your local library. If you have your music library synced with iCloud, the song may still be available on other devices linked to the same iCloud account.

Deleting Music files from your Mac involves selecting the songs you want to delete, pressing the Delete key, confirming the deletion, and permanently removing the songs from your library.
