As a result, the flowing water is able to exert a greater erosive force on the land, carving out deep and narrow channels known as ravines.

In semi-arid and arid regions, the growth of plants is often stunted due to limited water availability. This results in sparse vegetation cover, leaving the soil exposed and vulnerable to erosion. Another factor that plays a role in ravine formation is the intermittent nature of rainfall in these regions. When rainfall does occur, it often comes in heavy bursts, leading to flash floods.
