Dogs, being descendants of wolves, have a natural instinct to seek out safe and enclosed spaces for resting and sleeping. This instinct is often referred to as denning, as dogs have a tendency to find or create a den-like environment where they feel secure and protected.
In the wild, wolves would find shelter in caves, dens, or other secluded areas to rest and take care of their young.
