Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery is owned by Andy Nelson, who is also the head distiller. As the owner, Andy Nelson is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the distillery’s operations, from production to marketing and sales.
Andy Nelson’s journey with Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery began in 2006 when he discovered that his great-great-great-grandfather, Charles Nelson, had owned and operated a successful distillery in the late 1800s. Inspired by his family’s distilling legacy, Andy and his brother Charlie decided to revive the family business and bring back the historic brand.
Starting a distillery from scratch was no easy task, but Andy was determined to honor his family’s heritage and create high-quality spirits. He spent years researching and learning about the craft of distilling, attending workshops and conferences, and even apprenticing at other distilleries to gain hands-on experience.
In 2014, after years of planning and hard work, Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery officially reopened its doors in Nashville, Tennessee. The distillery’s flagship product, Belle Meade Bourbon, quickly garnered attention and acclaim, establishing Nelson’s Green Brier as a respected player in the craft spirits industry.
As the head distiller, Andy Nelson is deeply involved in the production process. He oversees the selection and sourcing of grains, the milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation, and aging of the spirits. His goal is to create spirits that are true to the family’s traditions and reflect the rich history of Tennessee whiskey.
In addition to producing their own spirits, Nelson’s Green Brier also offers tours and tastings, allowing visitors to learn about the distilling process and sample their award-winning products. The distillery has become a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a unique experience that combines history, craftsmanship, and a taste of Tennessee’s whiskey heritage.
As the owner and head distiller, Andy Nelson is not just a figurehead but actively involved in every aspect of the distillery’s operations. His passion for his family’s legacy and dedication to producing exceptional spirits have helped Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery thrive in the competitive craft spirits market.
