Is FireRed on 3DS?

Answered by Tom Adger

FireRed is not currently available on the Nintendo 3DS. Despite the fact that the 3DS eShop has made many classic Pokemon games accessible, such as Red, Blue, and Yellow, as well as the recent addition of the generation 2 games Gold and Silver, the third generation games are noticeably absent.

It’s unfortunate that FireRed, along with its counterpart LeafGreen, cannot be played on the 3DS. These games were remakes of the original Pokemon Red and Green (Blue internationally) games and were released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004. They introduced updated graphics, new features, and the ability to trade and battle with other players using a wireless adapter. Many fans consider FireRed and LeafGreen to be excellent remakes that captured the nostalgia of the original games while adding new elements to enhance the experience.

The absence of FireRed on the 3DS eShop is understandable but disappointing. The eShop primarily focuses on bringing classic games to the modern console, allowing players to relive their favorite childhood memories. However, the absence of FireRed suggests that there may be some complications preventing its release on the 3DS. Perhaps it is due to licensing issues or technical limitations.

It’s worth noting that while FireRed is not available on the 3DS, there is an alternative way to play the game on a modern console. The Virtual Console on the Wii U offers the original Game Boy Advance version of FireRed as a downloadable title. This means that players who own a Wii U can still enjoy the game on a more recent console. However, this option is not available for those who solely own a 3DS.

As a Pokemon fan myself, I understand the frustration of not being able to play FireRed on the 3DS. It would be wonderful to have access to all generations of Pokemon games on a single console. The 3DS has already proven to be a fantastic platform for Pokemon games, with its dual screens and improved graphics. Being able to play FireRed on the 3DS would complete the collection and provide a seamless experience for players who want to journey through all the different generations of Pokemon.

FireRed is not currently available on the 3DS eShop. While it is disappointing that this generation 3 Pokemon game cannot be played on the modern console, there is still the option of playing it on the Wii U Virtual Console. However, it would be great if Nintendo could make FireRed, along with the other generation 3 Pokemon games, accessible on the 3DS eShop, allowing players to experience the full range of Pokemon adventures on a single console.
